During the first weeks of the new year, the PHMC Health Network held staff trainings to encourage the regular use of the AIDET communication framework.
AIDET is a framework for health care professionals to communicate in a way that facilitates stronger understanding with patients, reduces anxiety and improves health outcomes. The AIDET acronym stands for Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You. It provides simple and consistent steps to incorporate into every patient interaction. These steps, combined with a commitment to excellent care, improve the patient’s experience, ensure that the provider delivers care with empathy and concern, and build patient loyalty.
Starting in January, nurses, medical assistants and administrative staff across PHMC’s six Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and two medical respite locations engaged in trainings that outlined the steps involved in AIDET and how to incorporate them into in their everyday operations. As part of the trainings, staff also received fun giveaway items and office collateral.
“AIDET lays out a consistent framework on how we show up in almost every patient interaction,” said Jake Becker, Managing Director of Specialized Health Services. “I’m impressed by the dedication of our staff. We’re excited to see how these staff trainings can help us further enhance patient care and strengthen our relationships with the communities we serve.”
